BEFORE YOUR NEWBORN SHOOT
If your shoot is taking place in your home, it’s really useful to send me a few images of your rooms (don’t worry if it’s not clean and tidy!) so that I can get an idea of the space and pick out the best spots for your shoot
It’s really worth the time planning your outfits for your shoot, please feel free to send me some snaps of outfit choices and I can advise on what will work best.
It’s great to co-ordinate your families outfits with a mixture of textures, patterns and plains. Neutral, muted shades work really well, soft colours are great but it’s best to avoid bright primary colours and bold logos as they give the images a harsh look and are very over powering.
For newborn shoots I like to start off with your baby in a white vest, it keeps things nice and simple and all of the focus is on your baby:
Textured knitted blankets or a large muslin are great to wrap baby in for a few shots:
Knitted outfits, hats, hoods and booties are very cute and the texture looks great in your images:

White tops with detail like lace or embroidery photograph beautifully for Mums:
Shirts over t-shirts, denim shirts, casual t-shirts and knitwear are great for Dad’s:

I love to photograph all the little details, a footless baby grow or outfit is perfect for showing their tiny toes:
When choosing a colour scheme, pick colours that will work harmoniously together. The best way is to start with one outfit and then co-ordinate the other outfits from there mixing colours, prints and textures. Here are some examples of colour schemes which work well:
